Emerson Senior Design Engineer in CHENNAI, India

Job Summary

If you are looking for an opportunity in Engineering, Emerson has this exciting role for you! The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for design and development of Solenoid valves, Actuators, Filter regulators.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Ensure the design follows Marketing requirements, design calculation, Risks and contingencies are accurately evaluated and documented.

  • Ensure Time to market and implement to NPD process.

  • Observe safe and professional work practices of the team as compliance requirement of company.

  • Analyzing and testing existing products to identify areas for improvement.

  • Collaborating with other Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers

  • Support creating budgets and timelines for each project.

  • Ensuring all products meet safety laws.

  • Researching other products in the market to generate ideas for improvement.

  • Developing and building prototypes to test their function.

  • Conducting user research to identify consumer needs.

  • Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling,

  • simulation (eg thermal & stress) and design verification testing, as

  • required. Agreeing the mechanical design approach with the Engineering

  • Manager and Senior Mechanical Design Engineers

  • Responsible for the specification compliance of designs

  • Responsible for mechanical part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost.

  • Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs at design reviews.

  • If required, generates minutes from Design Reviews

  • Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with departmental procedures.

  • Highlights all mechanical technical risks to the Engineering Manager

  • Keeps up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards.

  • Follows departmental processes relating to management of designs.

  • Responsible for identifying mechanical part numbers in accordance with the material finishes.

  • Responsible for creation of 2D drawings to allow manufacture or purchase.

  • Responsible for generation of Assembly drawings and bills of materials

  • Responsible for meeting design to cost figures.

  • Responsible for carrying out design change requests in a timely manner.

  • Ensures the mechanical design output fits in with all other aspects of the design.

  • Works closely with operations, manufacturing and production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture.

  • Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the Engineering Manager and Project Management teams

  • Creation of technical reports and documentation as required.

  • Take technical lead on specific projects and agree technical approach with the Engineering manager.

  • Regularly review the departmental design processes and identify any updates required.

Who You Are:

You serve as a Engineering professional in charge of finding innovative ways to create products that are functional and meet client wants and needs. You modify existing systems or develop new insights for processes to make them more efficient.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Minimum 7 - 10 years of product design

  • Expertise in PRO-E/Creo & Auto cad software. Product Data Management (Windchill) knowledge an added advantage

  • Knowledge on Tolerance stack, GD&T, Design calculation

  • Knowledge on Casting, Injection molding, Material & Elastomer selection

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, fast learner, and team player.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and math skills

  • Strong attention to details.

  • Product-focused creative thinking

  • Organization and effective time management

  • In-depth knowledge of industry design principles

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor's degree or any equivalent in Mechanical, Automation Engineering or any related field.

  • Master's degree will be beneficial.

  • Experience in Project Management.
